Ivanka Trump will be taking a job in the White House from now on. She is an unpaid employee who will now have an office in the West Wing. Ivanka will be the assistant to the president along with her husband who is a senior adviser to the president. Some people were concerned about somethings since she would be the President's assistant. She spoke about the topic yesterday. She sated that she's going to work as an unpaid employee and will follow the same rules as everyone else in the White Hose. Donald Trump said that instead of paying her, he would make a monthly paycheck and donate the money to charity. From now on Ivanka Trump will continue to offer advice to her father. Ivanka Trump is also involved in the STEM program with Secretary Betsy DeVos along with four-hundred fifty high school students. She is doing this in commemoration of Women's History Month. Ivanka is also planning to take a trip to Germany because she is going to attend a meeting/conference for the empowerment of women. She was invited by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Ivanka met a women called Maria Martinez. She is the founder and CEO of Respira Inc. It is a company that provides clinical respiratory and sleep services. The company started out as a home for women of domestic violence. She wanted her company to support people who are suffering from respiratory systems like her father. Our class this week finished writing the notes for the principal part of verbs on Tuesday. Verbs show action or state of being (“be” is a to be verb). An example of a verb in a sentence is: We read several Mexican folktales. The verb would be read because it is what the subject is doing. The verb is an action. Another example is: Folktales are traditional stories of people. The verb is are and it is a stated of being. There are two different types of verbs. They are regular and irregular verbs. They can be changed into base, past, past participle, and present participle. Base is the regular form of the verb without changing anything. Past is adding –ed or –d. Past participle is adding have or had in front of the past form of the verb. Present participle is adding –ing to the verb. An example of a regular verb is talk. The base for it is talk. The past form is talked. The past participle is have or had talked. Lastly, the present participle is talking. Another example for a regular verb is walk. The base is walk. The past is walked. The past participle is have or had walked. Finally, the present participle is walking. An example for irregular verbs is eat. The base is eat. The past form is ate. The past participle is have or had eaten. The last one is present participle, which is eating. Next, we move onto verb phrases. A verb phrase is two or more verbs that work together as a unit. A verb phrase may have one or more auxiliary verbs and main verbs. Some auxiliary verbs are be and have and all the forms. Other examples would be do, did, can, may, might, should, could, and will. This lesson was very interesting and I liked regular verbs better. Right now in South Sudan there are a lot of people who are starving right now. They are saying that there is a famine going on over there. Many Africans are starving and they really need food. Many farmers have lost their livestock, they've sold their tools and they've eaten all their crops. They have nothing left and they also have money as well. The U.N. Children's Fund said that more that one million children are currently estimated to be acutely malnourished across South Sudan; over a quarter of a million children are already severely malnourished. If we do not reach these children with urgent aid many of them will die. South Sudan, the world’s newest nation – just over five years old – has been struggling to survive since its birth. Not only is it one of the very poorest countries on earth, it has also suffered during most of its short life from an ongoing civil war.The South Sudanese bishops then note that while poor rains have affected parts of the country, the famine is man-made. And with deep insight they say, Hunger, in turn, creates insecurity, in a vicious circle in which the hungry man, especially if he has a gun, may resort to looting to feed himself and his family. Since war is fueling the famine, also ask your congressional delegation to urge President Trump to request that the U.N. Security Council impose a total arms embargo on South Sudan and actively attempt to negotiate a permanent cease fire. Since we are in the season of Lent, we have to fast, pray, and alms give. We need to give at least a small donation to the poor so they can at least get something to eat. On Tuesday, our class did the Mock Trial on the short story the “Tale Tell Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. I was on the jury and we had to decide whether the defendant was guilty or not. The defendant was played by Aidan Reynolds who did a good job acting as a psychopath. On the defendant team was Emily, Xavier, Danny, Tyler, Davin, Alex and Ela. On the prosecution team it was Kiana, Jeanette, Adrian, Jared, and Daniel. On the jury was Adi, Isabella, Melanie, Jeremiah, Fatima, Isaac, Skye, Gaby, Kyle, Derryl, Diego, Gavin, and me. The witnesses were Chelsea, Ryan, Karissa, and Sophie M. They first started with the opening statement. After they started to question the witnesses. The case was really interesting and I was impressed on how both sides presented their evidence. There was one mishap though. The defense team used really good questions to ask the witnesses and they had good evidence. The prosecution side had good evidence too, but I feel they could have reworded their questions. What was positive about the prosecution team was that when they questioned the defendant, they made the defendant get confused and it was amazing. I really liked the closing statement on the defense team because the finished it off with one final question, “Are you killing a man for something out of his control?” That question made me think that well that’s true because one of the witnesses was Dr. Sophie Mena who is psychologist and she said he is a psychopath. At the end the jury went outside and we decided that the defendant was innocent. There was one slight mishap though. Adi who was on the jury said he was guilty. Overall I thought that the mock trial was a great experience and that I might want to do it again. |
